I filed for re-election for a second term serving Allegany County in the Maryland General Assembly. I've been honored and humbled to serve, to pass meaningful legislation for our area, to be selected for senior leadership as a freshman legislator serving as Chief Deputy Whip for the Republican Caucus, and to be a strong partner for Governor Larry Hogan who has endorsed me for re-election.

Serving in our part-time legislature, hours away from home, family, and a job is a challenge. I frankly don't love "politics" and a lot of the things that come with it. But I do love where I grew up, and the people who live there and make it so special. I love fighting to grow my hometown that's been knocked down and neglected for decades, to facilitate better jobs, better schools and more opportunity in Cumberland, LaVale, Frostburg, and across all of Allegany County and Western Maryland. I'm honored by my friendship with, and endorsement from Governor Hogan, who is doing his best for all parts of Maryland with a spirit of putting people first and working across party lines rarely seen in political life.

It has been my privilege to have been selected by my peers in Annapolis to the following:

Chief Deputy Whip of the Republican Party in the House
Chair, Allegany County House Delegation
Principal Republican member, House Ways & Means Committee
Primary Republican member, Revenues Subcommittee
Primary Republican member, Financial Resources Subcommittee

I believe in Allegany County. I would appreciate your vote on November 6th!

"Jason Buckel is a big part of our team in Annapolis trying to change Maryland for the better. He's a great leader for Allegany County, and I need him back in Annapolis where he's working hard for better jobs, better schools, and common sense solutions for Western Maryland."

I am running for office one reason and one reason only—because I believe in Allegany County. I know that the continued economic decline, rising crime and lack of good jobs in our area has reached a tipping point from which we won’t be able to recover if it continues to persist, and I know that we can do better in terms of leadership and vision for our area in Annapolis.

While there are many issues which are important to me and probably important to you as voters and citizens, my primary focus on day one as your elected Representative to the Maryland House of Delegates will be to enact policies and programs that help grow Allegany County and provide sustainable economic development opportunities for a 21st century economy.
